Local Government

The City Council is the local governing body of the city of Wayzata. The council is composed of the Mayor and four additional council members. The City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Wayzata City Hall.

City History

In 1852, two pioneer families settled in the area that would become present-day Wayzata. In the years immediately following, a town began to take shape with additions like a sawmill, a post office, and a general store. Growth remained relatively light until the introduction of the railroad in 1867. With this new transportation system, Wayzata became a weekend destination for those living in the city. What was once a lumber settlement transitioned into a resort town, and from there has grown into the glamorous city that Wayzata is today.
